After both Chadron State College basketball teams posted big wins at home last weekend, they will host the teams from a pair of Denver school this weekend. Metro State will visit Friday night and Regis on Saturday night. Both double-headers will start at 5:30 in the Chicoine Center.

The CSC men bested Colorado State-Pueblo 77-61 on Friday night and the women upset RMAC-leading Colorado-Colorado Springs 72-70 on Saturday night for a pair of dramatic victories. Both CSC teams are 4-12 for the season. The women are 4-9 and the men 3-9 in the conference.

As usual, the Metro men are rocking again this season. They are 16-3 overall and 11-2 in the conference to share first place with Colorado Springs and Colorado Mines. Both of the latter teams have nipped the Roadrunners. Colorado Springs won 69-66 and Mines won 59-57 in overtime.

The Roadrunners are led by a pair of seniors from Australia. Mitch McCarron, a 6-foot-3 guard, is averaging 20.5 points and six rebounds. Nicholas Kay, a 6-9 center, is averaging 19.8 points and 6.4 boards. Metro beat the Eagles 72-51 when they played in Denver on Dec. 20.

The Regis men are 5-12 overall and 3-10 in the conference. One of their wins was 63-58 decision over the Eagles. The Rangers' only double-figure scorer is their lone senior, Brett Hartshorne, a 6-6 native of Belgium. He's averaging 11.3 points. Three of his teammates are averaging between 8.8 and 9.8 points.

The Metro women are one of four teams tied for third place in the RMAC standings at 8-5. They are 11-6 overall. They ran past the Eagles 67-47 just prior to the holidays. They are led by Deni Jacobs, a 5-11 senior who is averaging 14.8 points and 7.5 rebounds. Last week, Jacobs was named the conference's female basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

The Regis woman also are 11-6 overall and are 7-6 in the conference. They won 69-59 when they played CSC in Denver. Their top gun is 5-7 junior Bay'lee Purdy, who is averaging 17 points. Another guard, 5-5 Caresse Williams, is averaging 11.8 points and 5-11 sophomore Karlyn Johnson is scoring at a 10.1 clip.           Â

The Rangers feature experienced coaches. Men's mentor Lonnie Porter is in his 38
th and final season at Regis and women's coach Linda Raunig is in her 24
th year at the school.

Each CSC team will play just two of its seven games in February at home.
