CHADRON – Chadron State College women's basketball team earned its second victory of the season in a 70-56 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contest against Adams State University (1-10, 1-6). The Eagles (2-10, 2-6) host Black Hills State University Saturday, Jan. 10.
Chadron State spread the ball around well as eight Eagles found the scoring column. Guard and center combo
Kayla Mathews and
Maka Daysh scored 17 apiece, while
Stephanie Knowles came off the bench to hit five of six from the field to score 16. The trio of Mathews, Daysh, and Knowles combined for 15 of 27 from the field, 16 of 23 from the line, and 50 of the team's 70 points.
Defensively, the Eagles limited the Grizzlies to under 30 percent shooting from the field.
Knowles had a game high four steals, helping Chadron State score 15 points off turnovers and 10 points on fast breaks. Centers Daysh and
Ruby Luders both tore down seven rebounds and the Eagles totaled 29 defensive rebounds compared to the Grizzlies 20.
Adams State guard Desiree Anderson shot over 50 percent, accounting for 15 points. Emilie Klint sank four from beyond the arc to chip in 10 points.
The Eagles dominated the game near the basket, outscoring the Grizzlies in the paint 30 to 20, as well as scoring 13 points off second chance shots.
