CHADRON – A trio of Australians combined to score 59 points in No. 11-ranked Metro State's 72-60 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory over Chadron State College Friday at the Chicoine Center.
Â
The Eagles (4-14, 3-11 RMAC) will host Regis Saturday. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
Â
Metro State, now 17-3 overall and 12-2 in the league, led wire-to-wire in Friday's contest, thanks in large part to the play of its Aussies. Nicholas Kay, a native of Tamworth, scored a game-high 25 points, while Mitch McCarron of Brisbane scored 21 and dished out six assists. Not to be outdone, Will Sinclair of Lilydale scored a season-high 11 points and six boards.
Â
Both teams shot just under 48 percent and 10 Chadron State players scored, but the Roadrunners distanced themselves at the charity stripe. Metro State hit 25 of 34 attempts, while CSC connected on 11 of 17.
Â
Kendrick Holliman led Chadron State with 13 points and five rebounds.
Roderick Butler and
Christopher Smith both scored 10 points and
Evan Brooks added eight from the bench.
Â
The Eagles' offense struggled in the first half – they hit just 33 percent of their shots from the field and trailed Metro 35-23 – but they improved in the second half, shooting 60 percent. In the final 20 minutes, CSC hit 15 of its 25 attempts, however, they only went to the foul line five times. Metro State, on the other hand, made 14 of 20 from the charity stripe, to keep the Eagles at bay.
