LARAMIE, Wyo. — November 15, 2015 — The Chadron State women's basketball team got off to an excellent start during its exhibition game at the University of Wyoming on Sunday afternoon, but the Cowgirls outscored the Eagles 45-19 in the two middle quarters en route to winning 81-53.
After Wyoming scored the game's first two points, the Eagles went on a 7-0 run and never trailed in the opening quarter, which ended at 18-18. But the Cowgirls were ahead 38-27 at halftime and 63-37 at the end of the third period.
Wyoming shot 45.3 percent (29-64) and the Eagles 37.3 percent (19-51) from the field. The Cowgirls were nine of 25 from 3-point range and the Eagles three of 11. Wyoming was a perfect 14 of 14 from the free throw line, while CSC was 12 of 17.
Wyoming out-rebounded the Eagles 42-27 and had 17 turnovers, four fewer than the CSC women.
Five Cowgirls scored in double figures, led by senior Jordan Kelley and freshman Marta Gomez with 14 points apiece. The pair also led the rebounders with 12 and seven, respectively.
In addition, Skyler Snodgrass contributed 12 points, Liv Roberts 11 and Marquelle Dent 10 to go with seven assists and five steals.
Chadron State senior guard
Emma Block was the game's leading scorer with 15 points on three of five from 3-point range and six-of-six from the free throw line. Another senior,
Stephanie Knowles, chipped in 10 points and had five rebounds and five steals.
Also for the Eagles,
Kayla Mathews scored nine points and
Erin Graham eight. Center
Maka Daysh was limited to five points before fouling out after playing only 14 minutes.
Chadron State will be at home twice this weekend, meeting Augustana at 6 p.m. on Friday and Nebraska-Kearney at 5:30 Saturday night.
