CHADRON, Neb. -- After playing at NCAA Division I Wyoming on Sunday, the Chadron State College women's basketball team will open its home schedule by taking on Augustana at 6 p.m. Friday and Nebraska-Kearney at 5:30 Saturday night in the Chicoine Center.
In their last outing, the CSC women were defeated by Wyoming, 81-53.
Both of the Eagles' opponents this weekend opened the season by playing in the Sioux Falls Classic last weekend. Augustana defeated Northwest Missouri State 89-52 and the University of Sioux Falls downed Kearney 84-60 on Friday night. The Augustana Vikings toppled Kearney 82-63 when those teams collided Saturday night.
Game stories indicated that Augustana applied full-court pressure that helped create 46 turnovers during its two victories. The Vikings also are a tall team with seven players who are 6-foot or taller.
Last season, the Vikings finished 21-10 overall for their 10th 20-plus win campaign in the last 11 years.
Kearney was 12-17 a year ago and has a new head coach. She is Carrie Hofstetter, who formerly was the head mentor at Hastings College, and prior to coaching, played simultaneously with CSC coach
Tim Connealy at Hastings for one season. Ironically, Connealy went on to join the Lopers staff for four years before taking the head coaching position at Chadron State.
