CHADRON, Neb. -- November 21, 2015 -- The University of Nebraska at Kearney women's basketball team came into Chicoine Center tonight and snuck out with a 66-59 win, improving to 3-2 on the season. Chadron State College drops to 0-3.
The Lopers' leading scorer, Alexa Hogberg, had 21 points on 6-of-13 shooting. Post player Imani Kyser went 7-of-8 from the field to finish with 16 points.
UNK did not find their rhythm until late in the game, however. The Eagles led for the vast majority of the first half, never trailing, and had a chance to tie or retake the lead as late as 2:25 in the 4th quarter, after
Emma Block came up with a clutch three-pointer to come within two, and then the Lopers' Laramey Becker was whistled for an offensive foul on the ensuing possession.
A change in momentum occurred midway through the third quarter, when after losing the lead then retaking it at 4:38 in the period, Hogberg hit back-to-back three-pointers to go up three at 2:46. After that, the Eagles were unable to tie it up again.
Maka Daysh led CSC with a game-high 21 points to match Hogberg's contribution. She added a game-high eight rebounds.
Stephanie Knowles, returning to the floor from a head injury, gave the Eagles a boost with nine points, two assists, and two blocks.
The Eagles once again suffered from a turnover disadvantage. CSC had 11 more than UNK in the game leading to a 20-9 deficit in points off of turnovers.
Chadron State outshot their opponents 39.0% to 35.3%, getting 38 points in the paint compared with 26 for Nebraska-Kearney.
The CSC women have one more non-conference matchup left, a road swing up to Montana State-Billings Friday at 5:15 p.m., before opening conference play at home against Regis University on December 5.
