BILLINGS, Mont.—November 27, 2015—Montana State-Billings jumped out to a 23-5 first quarter lead and went on to defeat Chadron State 82-67 Friday night in a women's non-conference basketball game that produced some unusual statistics.
All five Billings starters scored in double figures while five Eagles tallied at least nine points.
The Yellowjackets, now 2-3 for the season, made six of 14 field goal attempts and nine of 10 free throws in the opening period, while the Eagles, 0-4, were just two of 12 from the field and did not go to the charity stripe in the frame.
Although Billings led 41-20 at halftime and maintained at least a 13-point lead throughout the second half, the Eagles outscored the hosts 62-59 in the final three periods. In addition, Chadron State shot 53.2 percent (25-47) from the field compared to 44.1 percent (26-59) for the Yellowjackets for the game. Both teams made seven three-point shots.
But Billings finished 23 of 29 from the free throw line compared to CSC's 10 of 15. The Yellowjackets also won the rebound battle by a 31 to 20 margin and scored 18 second-chance points compared to Chadron State's five.
CSC had 22 turnovers and Billings 20.
Senior Alisha Breen led Billings with 22 points and a game-high eight rebounds while Rylee Kane scored 14 points, Janiel Olson 12, Tiana Hanson 11 and Monica Grimsrud 10.
Sophomore center Mayka Daysh led the Eagles with a game-high 24 points on nine of 13 shooting from the field and six of nine at the line. Both
Emma Block and
Allegria Chisom scored 12 points and
Erin Graham and Kayla Matthews each added nine for Chadron State.
Block was four of six on three-point shooting while Chisom was five of seven from the field and made her only shot from behind the arc.
Although she scored just one point, CSC's
Stephanie Knowles handed out eight assists.
The Eagles will open their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference schedule by hosting Regis at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, followed by a game between the men's teams from the two schools.
