CSC women run down UCCS 83-63

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- December 19, 2015 -- Three Eagle players scored in double figures tonight, and staunch defense held four of five UCCS starters under their season averages, as Chadron State College women's basketball (2-7, 2-3 RMAC) won their last game of the calendar year 83-63, on the road at Gallogly Events Center. The Mountain Lions fall to 6-5 (2-3 RMAC) on the year.

The Eagles trailed only once in the game, after the Mountain Lions' Jen Vigil converted a steal into two points, 22 seconds into the contest. The Eagles then essentially went wire-to-wire over the home team with Emma Block putting them ahead 3-2 on the ensuing possession.

CSC shot an impressive 53.6% from the field and hit five of nine three-pointers in the first half to run out to a 14-point halftime lead. They then led by as many as 29 points in the second half en route to the 20-point victory.

Chadron State, who trailed their opponents by an average of more than 4.6 rebounds entering the game, held a 50-to-34 advantage over UCCS on the boards tonight. The Mountain Lions managed a mere 27.1% shooting on the night.

Coming home for the final game before the holidays, Colorado Springs native Stephanie Knowles had 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting, with six assists and six rebounds, adding a pair of steals.

"Stephanie's a player who's going to be flirting with a triple-double just about every night from here on," said head coach Tim Connealy after the game. "As a senior she's really coming on strong. Having her parents and family and friends here tonight really helped her."

Junior guard Erin Graham had a season-high 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting, hitting two of four three-pointers and grabbing five rebounds off the bench.

Sophomore post Maka Daysh also poured in a game-high 18 points, going five of eight from the field and 8 of 10 at the free throw line.

Sophomore point guard Kayla Mathews was also a heavy contributor to the win, with five points, five assists, and eight boards.

The Eagles have the holiday weekend off before returning home to face Western State and CSU-Pueblo on January 2-3. The Saturday, January 2 game starts at 3 p.m., and the Sunday, January 3 game begins at 1 p.m.
