CANYON, Texas – Big first innings doomed the Chadron State College softball team during its opening two games at the West Texas Woodward Invitational Friday at Canyon, Texas. Both Tarleton State and Midwestern State scored five runs in the first frame en route to victories over Chadron State.

The Eagles (0-8) will play Texas Woman's University and West Texas A&M Saturday.

In the opening game Friday, Tarleton State jumped out to a 5-0 lead before the Eagles responded with six unanswered runs. However, following a scoreless seventh inning, Tarleton State hit a three-run triple in the bottom of the inning to escape with a 9-6 win.

The Eagles finished with 12 hits in the game compared to nine for Tarleton State. Both
Courtney Lecher and
Casey Polk went 3-for-4 to lead the CSC offense. Lecher also had a double and drove in two runs.
Jessica Eatmon added a two-run home run and
Zoe Humphries,
Katelyn Kruger and
Shea Graham all had doubles.

Midwestern State led wire-to-wire in its 15-7 six-inning victory over CSC. Midwestern scored five runs in the first and three more in the third and fourth innings to put the Eagles away. Lecher, Eatmon and
Aspen Eubanks all had two hits and Kruger hit a double in the second straight game. One of Eubanks' hits was a three-run triple.

Also for CSC, Eatmon had two RBIs and
Bekka Prokaski also drove in a run with a single.
