CHADRON – The Chadron State College women's basketball team scored the first basket, but never led again Friday night as Colorado Christian took a 54-42 victory in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game in the Chicoine Center.
While the Cougars shot only 38 percent from the field, the Eagles meshed just 22.4 percent and finished with their lowest point total of the season.Â
Â
CSC was 0-10 from 3-point range and could never make its offense to click against the Colorado Christian zone.
Â
There was a bright note for the Eagles. Freshman center Mayka Daysh had the first double-double of her career, scoring 20 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Seven of her rebounds were offensive, most of them off of her own misses. But she either made the follow shot or was fouled in the process. The 6-footer from New Zealand was 12-of-12 from the free throw line.
Â
Junior guard
Stephanie Knowles also did some things well for Chadron State. She scored nine points and had six rebounds and five steals.
Â
Claire Paxton, a 6-2 sophomore from the United Kingdom, led Christian with 13 points. Junior guard Taylor Torres added 10 points and both Christina Whitelaw and Kate Louthan scored nine. Whitelaw also collected 12 rebounds
Â
The Cougars are now 11-13 overall and 11-7 in the RMAC. The Eagles are 7-15 and 7-11.
Â
The Eagles will host Colorado Mines tonight in their final home game of the season.
