CHADRON — After having an off-night during a 54-42 loss to Colorado Christian on Friday night, the Chadron State College women's basketball team bounced back to post a 69-63 decision over Colorado School of Mines on Saturday night during the Eagles' final home game of the season.

The CSC women have now won five of their last seven games to improve their record to 8-15 for the season and 8-11 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Colorado Mines led the entire first half and was ahead 30-26 at intermission. The Eagles took their first lead at 33-32 on back-to-back field goals by one of the team's two seniors,
Hattie Guzman. Her second shot was a 3-pointer, one of eight that CSC netted.

The score was tied six times and the lead changed hands 12 times the rest of the game. Chadron State got the lead for keeps at 60-59 with 1:52 to play on a jumper by the team's other senior,
Kate Simonton.Â

The Eagles maintained the lead by making nine of 10 free throws in the final minute and a half. Simonton sank three of four and
Emma Block was perfect all on six of hers.

CSC finished with 15 of 19 from the line. Mines was six of eight. Both teams shot right at 40 percent from the field.Â

Stephanie Knowles led the Eagles in scoring with 19 points. Simonton finished with 14 and
Allegria Chisom 13.

Mines, now 11-14 for the season and 6-13 in the RMAC, was paced by 6-foot-2 Courtney Martin, who tallied a career-high 34 points. She was 14 of 20 from the field and six of seven from the charity stripe. Sophomore point guard Laura Tyree added 10 points, but was just five of 19 from the field.

Both Chadron State teams will play at Colorado-Colorado Springs and Colorado State-Pueblo this coming weekend.
