Chadron State suffers loss on the road

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Chadron State College women's basketball team suffered a 100-68 loss to the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup Friday. CSC takes on CSU-Pueblo (14-9, 12-7 RMAC) Saturday, Feb 21.
 
UCCS (20-5, 15-4 RMAC) opened the game on a 15-0 run, keeping CSC (8-16, 8-12 RMAC) scoreless for six minutes. Chadron State found its stride following trips to the foul line by Maka Daysh and Emma Block, scoring the next eight, bringing the game to 15-8. The Eagles would close the gap to 26-18 with seven minutes remaining in the first half, but the Mountain Lions, led by Abby Kirchoff, would score the next 23 of 29 points in the half to take a 25 point lead, 49-24.
 
Out of the break, UCCS would push its lead to 33 points on a 12-4 run. UCCS led by as much as 37 points in the game, but the Eagles held their own and went even through the rest of the second half.
 
Kirchoff led all scorers with 24 points on 7-12 shooting from the field, while making all six shots from the line. Center Brittany Hernandez chipped in a dozen points and three steals, while Jessika Kienitz and Sam Patterson added 10 points each.
 
Defensively, Kienitz and Shanah Leaf both tore down seven boards, as UCCS outrebounded the Eagles 43-31.
 
Emma Block paved the way for the Eagles with 11 points, sinking four of five from the line. Allegria Chisom chipped in 10 points and three assists.
 
The Mountain Lions shot lights out, outshooting the Eagles from beyond the arc, 52 percent to 18 percent. In reverse, Chadron State owned the paint, outscoring Colorado Springs 26-10 down low. UCCS finished the game shooting 52 percent from the field while holding CSC to 39 percent.
