PUEBLO, Colo. – Chadron State College women's basketball team fell to Colorado State University of Pueblo, 74-57, in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup Saturday evening in Pueblo. The Eagles face their final opponent of the season, Black Hills State University, Feb 28, in Spearfish.
CSC (8-17, 8-13 RMAC) and CSU-Pueblo (15-9, 13-7 RMAC) played close through the first five minutes, before Pueblo went on a 12-0 run to take a 21-8 lead with nine minutes left. The ThunderWolves would close out the half up 33-22, outscoring the Eagles 16-0 in points off of turnovers.
After the break, Pueblo pushed its lead, going on a 22-11 run before leading by as many as 22 points.
Four ThunderWolves scored in double-digits, led by Ashley Piper with 15 points. Dee Arrieta had 14, while Katie Nehf added a dozen and Tuileisu Anderson chipped in 11. Arrieta had six assists in the win.
Defensively, CSU-Pueblo out-rebounded Chadron State, 40-32. Emily Dungey had a team-high seven rebouns, while Arrieta had three steals.
For Chadron State,
Stephanie Knowles had a team-high 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting.
Kate Simonton added 10, while
Allegria Chisom,
Emma Block and
Maka Daysh had eight points each.
Knowles added five rebounds, a pair of blocks and three steals in the defeat. Block had seven rebounds and three assists.
Pueblo outshot Chadron State, 43 percent to 38 percent, including 56 percent from beyond the arc.
