Eagles to end seasons at Black Hills State

The Chadron State College basketball teams will conclude their seasons Saturday by playing at Black Hills State in Spearfish. The women's game starting at 4 o'clock will tip off the double-header.

Both CSC teams are out of the RMAC playoff picture, but they'd like to avenge the losses they were dealt by the Yellow Jackets when the teams played in Chadron on Jan. 10.  The Black Hills women won 78-69 and the men squeezed out a 62-61 decision in a game that was as tight as the score would suggest. Neither team ever led by more than seven points and there were four ties and 12 lead changes.

The Chadron State women are 8-17 overall and 8-13 in the RMAC while the Eagles' men are 7-17 and 6-15.

The Black Hills women are 14-11 overall, are 12-9 in the conference and will be one of the eight teams in the RMAC Shootout next week.  The Jackets' men are 9-19 for the season and 7-14 in the conference, not good enough to make the postseason.

The Lady Jackets don't have spectacular statistics, but are well-balanced and have won six conference games both at home and on the road to help them reach the playoffs for the second season in a row.  The team's top scorer, Chelsey Biegler, is averaging 11.8 points and goes to the free throw line often.  She's of 99 of 131 there this winter.

The Black Hills men have some similarities, but are just 3-7 in RMAC games at home.  Their top scorer is 6-5 junior Riley Ryan at 10.3 points. Guard Brody Brisk is averaging 9.9 points a game.

The Chadron State women have five players averaging between 7.8 and 10.1 points.  The leader is point guard Emma Block at 10.1, followed by Maka Daysh at 9.9, Stephanie Knowles at 9.4, Kate Simonton at 8.3 and Allegria Chisom at 7.8.

The CSC men's top scorer is Kendrick Holliman at 14.5 a game.  He's followed by Evan Brooks and Chris Smith, both at 12 points a game.
