Holliman notches double double in CSC’s win

GUNNISON, Colo. – Chadron State College's Kendrick Holliman secured a double double in the team's 94-83 victory over Western State Colorado University Friday evening in Gunnison. The Eagles have now won two straight in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference for the first time since December, which was the last time they played against Western State and Colorado Mesa. The team travels to its rematch Colorado Mesa Saturday in Grand Junction.

The Eagles (6-14, 5-11 RMAC) let the Mountaineers (3-17, 2-14 RMAC) come out shooting as they hit three straight from beyond the arc to take a quick 9-0 lead in the first minute. The Eagles responded and scored the next 11 points. After that, the two squads played a close first half but CSC led 46-41 at intermission.

Following the break, CSC put its foot on the pedal, extending its lead to 20 points midway through the second half. The Mountaineers never led again, despite their best efforts by shooting tandem Mason Biddle and Devin Kastrup who combined for 47 points.

Holliman scored his first double-double of the season, sinking 21 points and grabbing 14 boards. Point guard Josiah Lee scored a career-high 19 points, shooting six of seven from the field, including sinking all three 3-pointers and all four of his free-throws.

Also for the Eagles, Evan Brooks scored 13 points and had four assists, while Christopher Smith added 10 points and a team-high five assists. Davante McCallam also had 10 points.

Western State's Biddle had a game-high 31 points on 11 of 23 shooting. Kastrup had 16 points and seven rebounds while making half of his shots from the field. Danny Hopkins added 13 points to the Mountaineers total.

Chadron State as a team outshot and outscored Western State in every possible way. The Eagles outshot their opponents 57 percent to 44 percent, including shooting 65 percent from beyond the arc. CSC scored 23 points off of turnovers compared to WSCU's 15. The Eagles bench outscored the Mountaineers 24-15, while the team dominated the paint, scoring 38 points down low to Western's 28.
