GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— Colorado Mesa University men's basketball team avenged an early season loss to Chadron State College en route to its 85-51 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory Saturday.
Â
The Eagles, who host Colorado Christian and Colorado Mines next weekend in Chadron, had a hard time getting their offense going. They shot 28 percent (15-53) from the field Saturday night and were just five of 22 from the field in the first half.
Â
Mesa, now 15-7 for the season and 10-6 in the RMAC, sank 16 of 27 field goal tries in the opening half and led 43-14 at intermission.
Â
The Mavericks were led in scoring by three players. Junior center Ryan Stephan, who is averaging 25, scored 19 points, and Julian Vasquez and Nate Hawley came off the bench to tally 17 apiece. Halley was five of seven from 3-point range.
Â
Chadron State was paced by
Kendrick Holliman's 13 points. Both
Evan Brooks and
Roderick Butler added 12, but the trio was just nine of 29 from the field.
Â
For Mesa, the victory avenged CSC's 64-58 win in Chadron on Dec. 5.
