Eagles win fourth straight

CHADRON – The Chadron State College women's basketball team opened Friday's game against Western State on a 14-0 scoring run and never looked back en route to its 70-60 victory.

The Eagles, now 7-13 overall and 7-9 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, have won four consecutive league games. They'll look to keep that streak alive at Colorado Mesa Saturday. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.

On Friday, Chadron State received a balanced effort. Stephanie Knowles scored a team-high 21 points and added seven rebounds and seven steals in just 25 minutes of action. Maka Daysh scored 16 points – she made eight of nine from the foul line – and had eight boards, and Kayla Mathews chipped in 11.

Neither team set the nets on fire. Chadron State shot 35 percent for the game and Western State (4-16, 3-13 RMAC) hit 32 percent. However, the Eagles made 25 of 35 free throws, including 14 of 18 in the first half while building their lead.

Chadron State led by as many as 19 points but Western State cut it to single digits early in the second half. Knowles hit a 3-pointer, though, and Daysh added a bucket and three free throws that allowed the Eagles to breathe comfortably with a double-digit advantage the rest of the game.

Three players finished in double figures for Western State. Jade McIntosh led the Mountaineers with 18 and Sydnie Lengyel and Stephanie Williams both had double doubles. Lengyel had 10 points and 13 rebounds, while Williams had 10 points and 10 boards.
