CLEARWATER, Fla – Chadron State College's softball team suffered two setbacks during the second day of the Eckerd College Invitational in Clearwater, Florida, Saturday.
The Eagles fell to Saint Leo University 12-2 and No. 17-ranked University of Tampa 4-0. CSC closes out its tournament play against Palm Beach Atlantic University and Lynn University Sunday at 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
Against Saint Leo, the Eagles jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead behind a
Casey Polk single that brought home
Courtney Lecher and
Rebecca Wetsch in the first inning. Chadron State lost its lead in the bottom of the second when Saint Leo scored four runs, however. Saint Leo went on to score a pair in the third, a single in the fourth and five in the fifth to pull away.
Chadron State returned to action against the University of Tampa and All-American pitcher Julia Morrow. Tampa would score first following a double by Meagan Burke, and the score would remain 1-0 until the fifth inning. In the fifth CSC surrendered three runs off three walks and three singles.
Morrow pitched a perfect game, the first against Chadron State in school history. It was the first no-hitter in her career, and her 15 strikeouts were the second-highest in her career.
