Stack wins 150th game against CCU

CHADRON – Chadron State College head softball coach Rob Stack earned his 150th career victory Saturday in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference win over Colorado Christian University. The Eagles lost 8-3 in the first game, but came back to win the second, 5-4. The two teams will play another doubleheader Sunday. First pitch is set for 11 a.m.

The second game of the day was a tight battle to the end. No runs were scored for the first three innings, with only two hits, both by the Eagles (5-21, 5-9 RMAC). Danielle Romine slammed a solo home run for CCU (9-15, 6-6 RMAC) with two outs in the top of the fourth to take an early 1-0 lead. With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, senior Casey Polk answered the call with a solo home run of her own.

Entering the fifth, CSC's Cierra Cosslett had allowed one hit, but CCU found its way, loading the bases with three straight singles and an error brought the lead to 2-1. Stack called upon Tayler Hall for a relief appearance and the junior got the Eagles out of the inning, down 2-1.

In the bottom of the fifth, Taylor Bauer reached second on an error and Courtney Lecher followed by hitting a double up the middle. Freshman Aspen Eubanks stepped up and slammed a three-run home run to take a 4-2 lead. CCU entered the sixth with an error to put Letty Valenzuela on base and Romine hit her second home run of the game to tie the game at 4-4.

Chadron State found its answer when senior Rebecca Wetsch led off the sixth inning with a solo home run to take its final lead, 5-4. After a ground out to Hall by the Cougars lead off, Hall struck out the final two batters of the inning. The Eagles capped off its fifth win of the season with a Gatorade bath for Stack following the postgame handshakes.

Hall picked up her fifth win of the season, striking out 10 batters in nine innings. Though Mariah Bledsoe picked up the win in the first game, Tana Feiner struck out nine batters and allowed only two earned runs in the second game.

Eubanks led all batters with three hits, three runs and three RBIs. Romine had two home runs and three RBIs in the second game.

CSC fell in the first game of the day, 8-3, following a five run first inning for CCU. Eubanks would do her best to keep the Eagles in the game, scoring two runs and getting two hits in three at bats.
