COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Chadron State College's
Taylor Bauer and
Shea Graham each drove in two runs and
Tayler Hall tossed a complete game to lift the Eagles to an 11-3 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory over the University of Colorado Colorado Springs Saturday afternoon at Mountain Lion Field.
Â
In the second game, UCCS (12-13, 10-10 RMAC) scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to escape with an 11-10 victory. The two teams will play another doubleheader Sunday.
Â
In the opening game, Chadron State (7-23, 7-11) shook off a scoreless first inning and managed to scrape across at least run in the six remaining frames.
Zoe Humphries got the scoring started when she knocked
Caroline Johnson in with a double and Bauer added a solo home run in the third inning. Graham ripped a two-run home run in the fourth and the Eagles were in control, 4-0.
Â
UCCS scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth but the Eagles answered with three runs in the top of the sixth and the seventh. In the sixth, Bauer and Prokaski each had RBI singles and Polk cranked a sacrifice fly. In the seventh,
Jessica Eatmon had an RBI double and
Courtney Lecher and
Rebekah Anthony also drove in runs.
Â
Lecher led the Eagles by going 3-for-5 but she received plenty of help as
Aspen Eubanks, Humphries, Bauer and Graham all had two base hits.
Â
In the circle, Hall scattered six hits and struck out 10 en route to her seventh victory of the season. Just two of the Mountain Lions' three runs were earned.
Â
UCCS jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one inning in the second game but the Eagles clawed their way back by scoring two runs in both the second and fifth innings before exploding for five in the top of the sixth to take a 9-4 advantage.
Â
During that 9-0 burst,
Katelyn Kruger hit two home runs and Bauer added one of her own. However, UCCS answered with five runs of its own in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 9-9.
Â
The Eagles weren't behind for long as Kruger ripped her third homer of the day to put CSC up 10-9.
Â
In the bottom of the inning, though, the Mountain Lions filled the bases after two errors and two fielder choices before Warhoe hit a two-run single to end the game.
