Eagles lose tough one on road

Box Score September 12th, 2015
CSC Eagles Tough Road Loss

A sellout crowd at Robert W. Plaster Stadium in Springfield, Mo., on Saturday, got a chance to see what Chadron State College football is all about. The Eagles came up short in their bid for an upset victory against FCS Missouri State, but gave the Bears all they could handle. The final score was 21-13.

The Eagles fell behind in the first quarter 7-0, but battled back to tie the game with a 14-yard touchdown run by sophomore tailback Derek Jackson.

Later in the quarter, Jackson ripped off a 73-yard run that carried to the Missouri State 10. It set up a 23-yard field goal field goal by Randy Wentz, giving the Eagles a 10-7 lead,

Late in the second period, Missouri State put together a 10-play, 76-yard drive that was capped by quarterback Brett Ruddick's 11-yard scoring pass to Eri Christophel, giving the Bears a 14-10 halftime margin.

The Eagles had a "never quit" attitude in the second half and stayed close.

Wentz added another field goal, but a 55-yard breakaway run to the end zone by Ruddick give the Bears some breathing room and the Eagles were unable to put together a winning rally.
Jackson led the Eagles in rushing with 133 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback TD Stein, making only his second career start, finished 17 of 31 passing for 167 yards and two interceptions.

Head coach Jay Long complimented the Eagles' defense for limiting Missouri State to just 21 points, but said he was disappointed that his team was" unable to finish several impressive drives."

The Bears wound up with 407 total yards and the Eagles with 381. Both teams are now 1-1.

The Eagles will be on the road for the third straight week next Saturday as they enter Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play at Colorado School of Mines in Golden at noon.
