CHADRON, Neb. -- January 23, 2016 -- Colorado Mesa buried 12 of 27 3-point shots while snapping Chadron State's three-game winning streak by a 72-40 score Saturday night in Chadron.
The Lady Mavericks, now 11-6 overall and 8-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, led 34-23 at halftime and continued to wear down the shorthanded Eagles in the second half. CSC is now 6-11 and 6-7.
Senior Ashley Stevens, a native of Bridgeport, and junior Sydney Small led Mesa with 17 points apiece while combining to knock down eight of 10 3-pointers. Stevens made five of six and Small three of four shots from behind the arc.
Entering the game, Stevens was averaging 4.2 points and had made five of 24 3-point attempts, while Small was averaging 10 points and had hit five of 24 shots from long range.
Bryanna Adams, who is Mesa's leading scorer with an 18-point average, added 12 points against the Eagles.
Sophomore center
Maka Daysh led Chadron State with 16 points and nine rebounds. No one else scored more than six points.
The Eagles were without one of the stalwarts,
Allegria Chisom, who sprained an ankle Friday night during CSC's 71-58 win over Westminster, and all-around standout
Stephanie Knowles, was slowed by a hip injury that apparently occurred in the first half.
The Eagles shot just 29.3 percent from the field for the game and were zero of 10 from 3-point territory. Mesa shot 44.3 percent from the field.
Both Chadron State teams will play at Adams State and Fort Lewis this coming weekend.            Â
