Webb leads Eagles to sweep over Skyhawks

CHADRON, Neb. -- October 14, 2016 -- Chadron State College sophomore setter Madison Webb was a factor in every phase of the match Friday night as the Eagles (5-13, 4-5 RMAC) toppled Fort Lewis College in straight sets at home in Chicoine Center.

The second-year player from Loveland, Colorado, was effective as usual passing the ball to her teammates, who racked up their third-best hitting percentage of the season at .252. Webb finished with 38 assists, for an average of 12.7 per set. Sixteen of those came in the third set, when she helped the Eagles to mount a whopping 48 attacks. A total 19 of the Eagles' 25 points in the clinching round came on offense.

"Madison is not only a great person," said Mullis, "but she loves to lead and she's a great competitor. She's the heart of our team. She had a lights-out night. She's the glue, and she allows our hitters to be successful."

Webb was evidently a part of the Skyhawks' game plan, as they lobbed attacks at her all throughout the evening. She responded brilliantly, and finished leading the team in digs as well, with a season-high 15.

She also finished with a service ace after sending 19 total serves over the net. The Eagles scored on 12 of those. To top it all off, she had a block assist and one kill on two attempts, and no errors on any of her touches.

Chadron State is 4-0 this season when they hit at a rate of .250 or better.

Both middles who played tonight, Kenzie Chrisman and Alia Brennan, had eight kills apiece with only one hitting error. Brennan hit a team-high .636 while Chrisman recorded a rate of .467. For Brennan, it was a career high hitting percentage when recording at least five kills. It was also the highest percentage of any CSC hitter this season with the same minimum kills. Chrisman led the team with five total blocks, which included the third set match-point block to end the evening.

Gaby Varela and Rudy Leasau tied for the team lead with 13 kills apiece.

Sophomore right side Dominika Senkerikova saw her first action of the season tonight at right side, finishing the match with three kills.

Adams State University (9-9, 4-5 RMAC) rolls into Chadron Saturday night. The Grizzlies lost in straight sets Friday at Regis University, dropping them into a three-way tie with the Eagles and Western State for eighth place in the conference.

First serve Saturday is 6 p.m. The match is CSC's annual "Dig Pink Night" promotion.
