CHADRON, Neb. -- October 15, 2016 -- The Chadron State College volleyball team continues to seek consistency from match to match. One night after sweeping Fort Lewis on their home court, they lost in straight sets to Adams State University (23-25, 17-25, 21-25).
"We hit close to a 26 percent last night," said head volleyball coach
Riann Mullis, "then we hit close to zero tonight. That's the definition of lack of consistency, and we know it."
"Adams is an aggressive team. They came to compete tonight, but we definitely made it easy for them."
The Eagles went up big in the first set, leading by as many as eight points. However they lost the momentum about halfway through when they committed five attack errors within a span of eight points. The Grizzlies finished on a 7-2 win to close it out.
ASU never stunned with their hitting efficiency, but they did manage to lead each set and won the hitting percentage battle overall .136 to .050. CSC gave up five service aces and struggled to find their marks on offense as the Grizzlies cruised through two more sets.
Adams State's middle blocker Mallory Grimsrud had a game-high 12 kills and hit .416, also the best on either squad. She also led either team with five total blocks. Outside hitter Nina Mody-Bailey also played a smart match finishing with nine kills, two service aces, and two block assists.
For Chadron State, setter
Madison Webb added 32 assists to her total of 38 from Friday night, to finish the weekend at an average of 11.7 per set.
The Eagles now begin a four-game road swing, which includes matches at New Mexico Highlands and CSU-Pueblo, October 21-22, followed by Colorado Mines and Colorado Christian, October 28-19.
