CSU-Pueblo rallies to take five-set match

PUEBLO, Colo. -- October 22, 2016 -- The Chadron State College volleyball team ran out to a 2-0 lead in Saturday night's match against CSU-Pueblo, but the ThunderWolves battled back to take the match win. The Eagles fall to 1-1 on the four-match road swing, and 6-15 (5-7 RMAC) on the season.

CSU-Pueblo (8-13, 6-6 RMAC) owed much of their success to Caitlin Broadwell, a transfer from Nebraska-Kearney who went for 17 kills and a hitting percentage of .366 which was outstanding at her position.

CSC's Alia Brennan had a career-high 19 kills to lead the team with 19 points.

Gaby Varela had 18 kills and finished with 18.5 points including a block assist.

Setter Madison Webb had a career-high five kills to go with 56 assists and six digs.

The Eagles are on the road again next weekend with a match against Colorado Mines in Golden, Colorado on Friday at 7 p.m., and a meeting with Colorado Christian on Saturday at 5 p.m.

Colorado Mines was the top-ranked conference team in the latest AVCA poll, coming in at No. 22. Colorado Christian is now tied for eighth in the league at 6-6 in conference. CSC remains one match out of tournament contention.
