GOLDEN, Colo. -- October 28, 2016 -- The Chadron State College volleyball team went up against a very talented team at No. 22 Colorado School of Mines and as they have all season, fought hard against an accomplished opponent. However the Eagles were unable to turn the upset falling 3-0 (15-25, 20-25, 19-25) in Golden on Friday night.
"I was happy with how we competed," said head volleyball coach
Riann Mullis. "Mines is a really good team and I wasn't disapppointed at all."
The Mines hitters earned the win for their team, hitting at a blistering team rate of .405 for the match. The Eagles fared better than their season average of .155, hitting .184, but against a powerful Mines squad they needed more.
Alia Brennan starred for the Eagles, leading the way with 11 kills and a service ace to create 12 points. Her two hitting errors were her only miscues.
Gaby Varela finished with nine kills and
Rudy Leasau added eight.
Setter
Madison Webb once again provided quality setting, dishing up 30 assists and adding three kills, three digs, and a block assist.
"We played well both offensively and on the defensive end as well - especially for how good their hitters are," said Mullis. "We competed and we didn't fold. If we can play at that level we can compete with anyone in the RMAC."
The Eagles are back on the court Saturday at Colorado Christian. First serve is 5 p.m.
