SPEARFISH, S.D. -- October 8, 2016 -- Black Hills State University had a 14-5 advantage in blocking, and got just enough out of their offense Saturday night to get past Chadron State College volleyball in three sets.
The Yellow Jackets improve to 3-13, 1-7 RMAC, while CSC falls to 4-13, 3-5 in conference play.
Senior BHSU setter Brynn Eckhart took control of the match, leading with a match-high 13 kills, adding 10 assists and five total blocks to contribute directly to 28 points.
Middle hitter Cheyenne Palu was formidable at the net, getting 10 total blocks.
For the Eagles, libero
Emily Bruce showed up strong on the statistic sheet with 20 digs, and
Madison Webb had 30 assists, which was three less than the entire BHSU team.
Rudy Leasau and
Kenzie Chrisman were the Eagles most consistent scorers. Leasau matched the evening's high of 13 killsm hitting .184 and participating in one block. Chrisman's .294 hitting percentage was tops among all CSC attackers and she led the Eagles with five assisted blocks.
The Yellow Jackets outhit CSC .198 to .049, and committed fewer errors in nearly every phase of the match.
Chadron State can regroup at home next week, as they host Fort Lewis Friday, October 14, and Adams State Saturday, October 15. Both start times are 6 p.m.
October 15 is tabbed "Dig Pink Night", where there will be a primary school poster contest, and shirts will be sold and donations taken for the Sideout Foundation and breast cancer research.
