CHADRON, Neb. -- November 5, 2016 -- Black Hills State University volleyball used their trademark blocking defense and limited errors to down Chadron State College in four sets (25-17, 27-29, 17-25, 23-25) Saturday night in Chicoine Center. The Yellow Jackets improved to 7-17 (5-11 RMAC) while the Eagles fell to 7-18 (6-10 RMAC) with the loss.
As a result, CSC is no longer alive for an RMAC Tournament bid, as they are three matches behind the teams tied for seven through nine, with only two matches remaining on the schedule.
The Eagles, who are often on the positive end of the blocking score, found themselves outmatched at the net 14 to 8. They also committed seven serving errors to the opponent's three, and six serve receive errors to the visitors' three.
For once, the Chadron State squad won the hitting percentage battle and still lost. CSC hit at a clip of .154 for the match, while BHSUÂ hit .149.
CSC won set one handily, by a margin of 25-17, and pushed the Yellow Jackets to the brink in set two. In the second, there were 13 ties and Black HIlls State fought off set point three times to win 29-27.
The BHSU offense found a rhythm in the third set and outhit the Eagles .387 to .179.
A sluggish set four for both teams saw CSC give up points on three of their seven total service errors and two of their six serve receive errors to drop the set 25-23 and end the match.
Alia Brennan finished with 16 kills and five total blocks to account for 19 points with only seven errors.
Madison Webb's 48 assists, together with Friday's 50, gives her 98 in eight sets on the weekend.
Emily Bruce collected 21 digs on back-to-back nights.
Chadron State finishes its season next weekend hosting Colorado Christian and Colorado Mines at 6 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.
