LINCOLN, Neb. -- November 7, 2016 -- The Chadron State College basketball team may not have finished ahead in the final score, but the goal for Monday night never changed: prepare for the season. Nebraska won 98-45, but Chadron State took some great intangibles from the meetup.
"At halftime we had some guys upset at rebounding or maybe sureness, and they were voicing that," said head coach
Houston Reed. "We have a competitive spirit. Some things got worked out in the locker room, and from a leadership standpoint, that's part of why you play this game."
Nine different Eagles got on the scoreboard against the Huskers, all via field goals.
Jordan Perry, coming off the bench with an ankle injury, led the team with eight points and added three rebounds and a steal in only 16 minutes played.
Leigh Saffin, only 13 minutes, was 2-of-5 from three point range and grabbed one rebound.
Darius Polley was 3-of-9 from the field. Both he and Bronte Corbray finished with six points and four boards.
True freshman
Sam Harvey came away with a team-high five rebounds in 13 minutes.
Warren Gordon was good for five points and dished out a team-high three assists.
Chadron State opens up regular season play at Bellevue University at 6 p.m. MT on Tuesday, November 15.
