LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- December 3, 2016 -- The home team, the Colorado Christian University Cougars (5-3, 2-0 RMAC), shot 54.5 percent in the game, including 59.3 percent and 5-of 10 from three in the first half, to defeat Chadron State College (0-6, 2-0 RMAC) in the first weekend of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play on Saturday night in Lakewood.
The Eagles never led, but tied things up with under 15 minutes to play with back-to-back threes by
Warren Gordon and
Darius Polley.
CSC cooled off in the second half, shooting 32 percent and hitting only 9-of-18 free throws. The Eagles, who shot .421 as a team heading into the contest, had only three field goals in the final 14 minutes of play.
"We've had great efforts from individual players on any given night," said head men's basketball coach
Houston Reed. "We just haven't quite been able to put it all together and have multiple players click on the same night."
The team high of 12 points on the night was shared by
Warren Gordon, Bronte Corbray, and
Darius Polley. Corbray had four assists, to just one turnover.
Myles Busby recorded a team-best six rebounds while scoring seven.
"Where we're at in the season right now," added Reed, "we've just got to stay the course, keep putting one foot in front of the other, and keep trying to put it all together."
The Eagles host their first conference games this weekend, getting the University of Colorado Colorado Springs at home on Friday, December 9 at 7:30 p.m., before hosting MSU Denver on Saturday at the same scheduled start time.
