CHADRON, Neb. -- Two more Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference duals await the Chadron State College wrestling team in Colorado this weekend, as the Eagle grapplers head over to the Western Slope to lock grips with Colorado Mesa University and Western State Colorado University.
Each of the two opponents remains ranked nationally in the latest poll of NCAA Division II coaches, released today.
Colorado Mesa is ranked eleventh, with individuals rated top-eight in the country at 141 and 149 pounds.
Western State is just behind at 13th. Their 141-pounder and 174 pounder are each ranked individually.
In addition to the CSC wrestlers ranked previously, Chance Helmick debuts in the top-six regionally this week, coming in at No. 3.
"These are the top two dual teams in the conference," said head coach Brett Hunter, "and we've got some guys banged up, as usual. We'll just have to see who we can get into the lineup, and go from there. It's what we've done all season, and so far it's worked pretty well."
Colorado Mesa, who the Eagles will see Friday night at 7 p.m., in Grand Junction, is 7-2 in duals, with a 5-1 record against conference opponents. They face CSU-Pueblo tonight. Both their dual match tonight and the one tomorrow versus Chadron State will be streamed online. A link to CSC's match is available at ChadronEagles.com.
Western State will host the Eagles Saturday evening at 7 p.m. in Gunnison, Colorado, site of the 2016 NCAA Super Regional in two weeks. The Mountaineers have a 4-1 dual record in conference action this season, and are 7-3 overall. They will complete their dual schedule on Monday at New Mexico Highlands.
