Softball team drops two in Texas

CANYON, Texas -- February 13, 2016 -- Chadron State College softball saw its three-game win streak come to an end today, losing a pair of West Texas Invitational matchups with Texas schools. The Eagles fell 9-7 to Midwestern State in the morning game, and lost 12-0 to host West Texas A&M in the afternoon.

Despite a solid offensive output by Chadron State versus MSU, the Eagles were outpaced in the later innings. CSC batters collected seven hits and scored seven runs, but down 7-3 in the sixth, the Mustangs got a three-run homer from Katelyn Vinson to close the gap. Four hits for Midwestern in the top of the seventh yielded the winning runs.

Courtney Lecher was once again a force at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Kayla Michel also batted 2-for-4 with an RBI.

In the later game, No. 22 West Texas A&M battered the Eagles, as they have with every other opponent faced this season, with 17 hits in the first four innings to produce 12 runs. Only Michel and Katelyn Kruger managed base hits, both of which were infield hits.

Two more games await the Eagles tomorrow, as they draw Cameron and Eastern New Mexico. The CU Aggies have split 2-2 this weekend, with wins against Adams State and CSU-Pueblo. ENMU is 1-2, having also defeated Adams State. Both teams lost to Fort Lewis College this weekend.
