Eagles split on final day in Texas

CANYON, Texas -- February 14, 2016 -- Chadron State College split a pair of softball games on the final day of the West Texas Invitational, taking an 8-4 setback to Cameron University and downing Eastern New Mexico University 11-7.

Cameron's All-American Paige Daino homered in the first inning to provide what were eventually the winning runs for the Aggies. The Eagles were able to pound out 14 base hits with doubles by Lindsey Karlin and Taylor Bauer, but left 12 runners stranded. Chadron State's run production got traction in the second inning with RBI by Bauer, Courtney Lecher and Zoe Humphries. Shea Graham batted in the Eagles' final run in the bottom of the fifth. The Aggies homered four times in the game.

Katelyn Kruger had the game winner against ENMU, slapping a pitch over the fence for the team's first home run this season in the top of the fourth inning. She also doubled in the second as part of a huge six-run inning for the Eagles. Two other runs also scored on a ground rule double by Kayla Michel. Lecher, Bauer, and Amanda Einspahr combined to account for the other five RBI in the game. Nine different Eagles hit safely in the win. Lecher finished 2-for-3 with two walks, three RBI, and three runs scored.

The Eagles begin Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play next weekend, traveling to Denver to meet the league's only ranked team No. 21 Regis University.
