CHADRON, Neb. -- The Chadron State College wrestling team hopes to build on its 11-1 dual record when it hosts three opponents in four days beginning Thursday night at 6 p.m. in the Nelson Physical Activity Center.
The Eagles will begin the busy slate by meeting New Mexico Highlands in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dual starting at 6 o'clock Thursday.
Two South Dakota teams will visit over the weekend. The Northern State Wolves will be the opponent Saturday and the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers will visit Sunday. Both will duals begin at 1 o'clock.
Although Chadron State outscored the Highlands Cowboys by a 68.5 to 41.5 margin at the RMAC Tournament last Sunday in Colorado Springs, CSC coach
Brett Hunter said Highlands has a solid lineup. He also recalled that Highlands beat the Eagles 22-10 in last year's dual.
The Cowboys haven't had nearly as many duals as the Eagles so far this season, compiling just a 2-3 record.
Northern State began this week with a 5-10 dual mark that includes a 38-12 win over Dakota Wesleyan, which is still looking for its first dual victory of the season.
Hunter said while he was pleased that six Eagles placed among the top six in their weight classes at the conference tournament, he was disappointed that five of the six lost their final match at the tourney.
Three of the Eagles were runners-up in their weight classes and have some of the best records on the team.
Taylor Summers is 16-6 at 133 pounds,
Terrance McKinney is 18-7 at 149 and
Chance Helmick is 25-5 at 165.
In addition,
Caleb Copeland, who finished fourth at 174 pounds at the RMAC Tourney, is 19-8.
Redshirt freshman
Cooper Cogdill, who missed the first half of the season because of injuries, won his last match at the tourney to earn fifth place at heavyweight. His record is 7-6.
The three duals will wrap up the Eagles' home schedule for the season. They will visit two of the RMAC's most successful teams, Colorado Mesa and Western State, on Feb. 12 and 13 before preparing for the Super Region 4, or West, Regionals on Feb. 26 and 27 at Gunnison, Colo.
