CHADRON, Neb. -- February 5, 2016 -- Despite building a double-digit lead in the first 10 minutes, and extending it later in the first half, the Chadron State College men (4-12, 6-14 RMAC) dropped a 13-point decision to Colorado Christian University (12-10, 8-8 RMAC) tonight, falling 66-53.
The Eagles were done in by a span of nearly 15 minutes, in the second half, when they were able to produce only one field goal. They also committed an uncharacteristic 16 turnovers, which counts as their second-highest game total this season.
Warren Gordon led CSC with 12 points and four assists, grabbing five rebounds.
The Cougars' Wayne McCullough was efficient, hitting on 6 of 10 field goals, two of four from long range, and three of four from the free throw line. He finished with 17 points. Two other CCU players scored in double digits.
Colorado Christian's Hanson brothers - Jeremiah and Isaiah - ignited a run by the visitors with 10 unanswered points between the pair. The 18-1 streak flipped the score from a 43-36 CSC lead at 15:59, to a double-digit lead by the Cougars.
The Eagles once again dominated on the boards, 41-27, but could not overcome a 26.1% shooting effort in the second half, where they missed nine three-pointers.
CSC returns to Chicoine Center tomorrow night to face the defending RMAC co-champions, Colorado School of Mines, at approximately 7:30 following the women's game.
