Colorado Mines women lead wire-to-wire in Chadron

CHADRON, Neb. -- February 6, 2016 -- The Chadron State College women's basketball team fell in a hole early which they could not climb out of, and Colorado School of Mines left Chadron with a 63-46 win to improve to 16-5 (14-3 RMAC). The Eagles fall to 7-14 (7-10 RMAC).

Normally hitting at a clip of over 40 percent from the field, Chadron State shot just 20.7% in the first half, but got half of their buckets from the perimeter.

After the visitors ran out to a 17-9 first quarter lead, Elizabeth Tomon scored 12 for the Orediggers in the second quarter. However, freshman forward Keeley Pearce provided a spark that kept the Eagles' hopes alive, hitting two of her three treys. The Eagles also received several more chances at the foul line, and went into the half down only 33-22 despite the shooting woes.

The CSC women were unable to rely on the three in the second half, however, hitting only one long range shot. The Orediggers outscored the Eagles in each quarter, and shooting only improved slightly in the second half, to just over 29 percent.

CSC beat the visitors on the boards, snagging 47 rebounds to their 41. The 21 turnovers by the Eagles, compared with 11 by the opponents, contributed to seven more points by Colorado Mines.

Tomon led the Orediggers with 17 total points, and Cassidy Budge added 14.

Maka Daysh put together big numbers, scoring 16 and dominating the boards with 16 rebounds. Erin Graham had her second 10-point game in as many nights.

The Eagles remain at home for one last weekend, hosting UCCS and MSU Denver on February 12-13.
