PUEBLO, Colo. -- March 13, 2016 -- Freshman
Kayla Michel batted .583 with a double, two home runs, and a 1.167 slugging percentage this weekend, as the Eagles went 1-3 in pod play versus Colorado State University-Pueblo and Metropolitan State University of Denver in Pueblo.
The Eagles led most of game one on Saturday versus MSU Denver, with home runs by
Rebekah Anthony and
Taylor Bauer in the first and third innings. Two homers by MSU Denver in the sixth led to a four-run inning as the Roadrunners cruised to an 8-3 victory.
Kayla Michel added a solo shot in the seventh.
Chadron State scored 11 runs in four innings in the afternoon game Saturday versus CSU-Pueblo, leading to a 11-2, five-inning game.
Shea Graham drove in
Katelyn Kruger for the winning run in the first inning. Michel and
Lindsey Karlin also homered.
Again on Sunday, the Eagles led going into the sixth versus CSU-Pueblo, but a three-run shot by Madison Wolfe provided the go-ahead run for the ThunderWolves, who prevailed 6-3. Anthony went 3-for-4 and Bauer drove in two runs on a single in the fifth.
In the final game of the weekend, the Roadrunners got two runs on two hits in the second inning, and the Eagles could not answer, falling 2-0.
Chadron State slides down a notch into a fourth-place tie at 15-13-1, 9-7 RMAC. MSU Denver maintains second place at 16-10 (13-3 RMAC). CSU-Pueblo falls to a 10th-place tie at 6-21 (5-11 RMAC).
