Eagles fall twice in Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- September 10, 2016 -- Chadron State College volleyball lost twice on Saturday, wrapping up their appearance at the Augustana Invitational at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls.

The Eagles were defeated by Augustana 3-0 (13-25, 20-25, 24-26) in the midday match, and lost to Southern Indiana in three sets (24-26, 18-25, 19-25) in the afternoon tilt.

"Defensively, and in our setting, we're comfortable with our system," said CSC head coach Riann Mullis. "Offensively we're not where we want to be - moving the ball and swinging the right way on our attacks. But Emily Bruce did very well for us this weekend at libero."

Bruce was named to the 2016 Augustana Invitational All-Tournament team at libero for her performance which included 88 digs, a clip of 7.33 per set.

Also showing out on defense was sophomore Kenzie Chrisman, who was in on 12 blocks over the weekend, good for 1.33 per set.

Coach Mullis pointed out the 83 attack errors on the weekend as cause for concern. As a result of those, the team only hit .073 in their four matches, versus .233 for their opponents.

The All-Tournament honor for Bruce was the second in as many weeks for the Eagles.

Madison Webb was the previous week's honoree. After collecting 8.77 assists per set last weekend, she had 8.17 at the Augustana Invite, and matched her six kills and three blocks from the prior tournament.

"I think we know at this point exactly what we have to work on," said Mullis. "We're going home and getting ready for conference play."

The Eagles open their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference schedule at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs on Friday, September 16, at 7 p.m., before traveling to Metropolitan State University of Denver the following evening, where first serve is 5 p.m.
