COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- September 16, 2016 -- First year head coach
Riann Mullis, head volleyball coach at Chadron State College, earned a win in her very first career Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contest - at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs Friday evening in the league opener for both teams.
Chadron State won 3-1 in a road contest that pitted a peripheral RMAC contender against the team picked by conference coaches to finish fifth in the 2016 season.
"It was well-deserved win," said Mullis. "We've been focusing on scoring points and taking smart shots. Every single hitter stepped up tonight."
The trio of
Rudy Leasau (14 kills),
Gaby Varela (14 kills), and
Stephanie Wilson (13 kills), provided 41 of the 56 kills tonight by the Eagles, who hit a season-high .268 in tonight's match.Â
Alia Brennan had nine total blocks to finish with 11.5 total points.
Sophomore setter
Madison Webb had a phenomenal performance with 49 assists in the match, which nearly equaled 12.5 assists per set.
"Everything was consistent, and that's all you can ask for," said Mullis.
Chadron State (2-7, 1-0 RMAC) travels to MSU Denver on Saturday night, where they will meet with the third-seeded team from last year's RMAC Tournament.
