LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- November 10, 2017 -- Chadron State College voleyball dropped a tough 3-0 match on the road Friday at Colorado Christian University. The Eagles fall to 10-16 (7-10 RMAC) while the Cougars are now 17-10 (14-4 RMAC).
"it was tough. We battled hard and came back from a seven point deficit, but we would do great things for five or six points and then lose it. We didn't have much energy and couldn't get our offense going with hitters and setters connecting. Our defense was definitely better than our offense.
Despite the loss, senior libero
Emily Bruce continued to make her case for postseason honors with 25 digs in three sets for an 8.3 digs per set average. She now sits atop the rankings for digs per set in conference matches, with 5.47 per set.
The Eagles were outhit .234 to .074 and outblocked eight to four. The Cougars' leading scorer, Mairlyn Suarez, had 12.5 total points on 12 kills and one block assist.
Chadron State's
Gaby Varela mimicked the match-high 12.5 points with 11 kills and 1.5 total blocks.
Down in Colorado Springs, Black Hills State lost 3-0 Friday evening, leaving the door open to CSC for one more attempt at the postseason. If the Eagles should win, they will play in the RMAC Tournament Tuesday at either No. 11 Regis University or No. 16 Colorado Mines.
"We're going to continue to talk about what tomorrow's match means," said Mullis, "and hopefully tonight's, loss together with the tournament, is enough motivation to win tomorrow."
Chadron State plays again at 5 p.m. Saturday at Colorado Mines in Golden.
