NCAA Selection Criteria
CANYON, Texas – November 4, 2017 – The Chadron State College women's team placed ninth and the men were 15th at the NCAA Division II South Central Region Cross Country Championships at Canyon, Texas, on Saturday. There were 27 women's teams and 28 men's teams in the competition, which wrapped up the season for the Eagles.
As anticipated, Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams dominated. Adams State, Colorado Mines and Western State finished in that order in both races, and will advance to the National Championships in Indianapolis on Saturday, Nov. 22.
The Adams State women swept the first three individual places while scoring 26 points to run away with the women's title. Colorado Mines had 82 points, Western State 87. Another RMAC member, Colorado-Colorado Springs was fourth with 119 points and will undoubtedly be among the teams that receive at-large invitations to Indianapolis. Dallas Baptist was fifth with 151 and Fort Lewis sixth with 228.
The Chadron State women totaled 286 points for their ninth place finish. CSC was led by sophomore Alyce Henry, who was 30th among the 183 runners, and senior
Nicky Banzhaf, who was 39th .
With its top three runners finishing one, two and four, Adams State won the men's championship with 35 points. Colorado Mines was close behind with 38 points after its top four filled the fifth through eighth place finishes. Western State was a distant third with 129 points.
Meet host West Texas A&M was fourth with 184 points, followed by Colorado State-Pueblo with 188. Pueblo's Marcelo Laguera finished third individually, meaning that RMAC runners swept the first nine places.
Chadron State totaled 405 points. Three seniors led the Eagles.Â
Levi Avila was 62nd,
Eric Yager 68th and Phil Duncan 84th among the 187 men who finished the 10 kilometer course. The women ran 6Ks.
