Adams State holds off CSC women, 87-78

ALAMOSA, Colo.—December 30, 2017—Chadron State senior Kalli Feddersen scored 27 points to match her career high and freshman Taryn Foxen tallied 18 points to reach double figures for the first time in her young career, but Adams State hung on for an 87-78 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference win Saturday night in Alamosa.

Chadron State led 15-14 at the end of the first quarter, but the second period proved to be difference.  That's when the Grizzlies outscored the visitors 26-13 to take a 41-27 halftime lead.

The Eagles cut the margin to five points twice in the fourth quarter on 3-pointers by Feddersen, but Adams State widened the gap to 11 points with 4 ½ minutes remaining and hung on to secure the victory.

Feddersen continually took the ball to the basket and was 17 of 20 from the free throw line, second only on the Eagles' all-time single-game chart to Kattie Ranta's 20 of 24 performance from the line against Adams State in 2012-13.

Feddersen also grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds to give her five double-doubles this season.

Foxen, whose previous high was seven points, finished with 18 and also came up with four steals.  Senior Letty Rodriguez added 11 points for the Eagles.

Adams State's top scorer was freshman Stephanie Ruiz with 16 points while senior Macy Meyers tallied 14, junior Brooke Neal 13 and two more Grizzlies added 11 apiece.

Adams State shot 47.2 percent from the field, including 54.8 percent (17-31) in the second half. The Eagles hit just 30.8 percent from the field, but, led by Feddersen, outscored the hosts by 23 points from the free throw line.

Chadron State was 34-41 at the line and the Grizzlies 11-17.

Both teams closed out the Old Year 1-7 in the RMAC while CSC is 3-11 overall and Adams State is 3-7.
