CHADRON, Neb. -- February 9, 2017 -- The Chadron State College basketball teams will visit Metropolitan State University of Denver and the University of Colorado Colorado Springs this weekend as the season enters the home stretch. The Eagles also will return to the Denver area on Valentine's Day to play the Regis Rangers.
Chadron State's regular season will conclude Feb. 24-25, when Black Hills State and South Dakota Mines visit for a pair of double-headers in the Chicoine Center.
All three of the Colorado teams the Eagles will visit prior to that are in contention for the RMAC Shootout that features the eight men's and eight women's teams with the best conference records during the regular season.
At 18-0, Colorado State-Pueblo has a stranglehold on the women's regular season championship, which they would clinch with a win Friday. Colorado Mesa and Colorado Springs are next in line at 13-4 while Regis was 12-4 entering this week. Metro State was in seventh place at 10-7.
The Eagle women are a game and a half out of contention for the tournament. They would certainly need to win at least one, and likely all three, of their remaining road games to qualify, with Colorado Christian, South Dakota Mines, and Black Hills State all standing in their way. Fortunately, they still have a shot remaining at the latter two, who are tied at 8-10 in conference play, at home.
On the men's side, Fort Lewis is the RMAC leader at 15-2, followed by Colorado Mines at 14-3, Pueblo at 14-4, Westminster 13-4, Metro State 10-7, Regis 9-7 and Colorado Christian and Colorado Springs, both 9-8.
The CSC women are 6-11 in conference play while the men, who are still seeking their first victory in 2017, are 2-15 and out of the postseason picture.
Myles Busby, a senior forward from Niles, Michigan, scored a team-high 14 points in the most-recent men's game against Colorado Mines. He returned last weekend after missing 11 games in December and January because of a knee injury which required surgery during the season.
