Eagle softball gets 2-0 head start in Regis series

DENVER, Colo. -- March 11, 2017 -- Chadron State College Softball took wins in both of its games on Saturday at Regis University in Denver. Both games were won by one-run margins, with big seventh inning comebacks.

Jessica Jarecki struck out 10 batters in the first game, and Morgan Wilhelm, pinch-hitting in the top of the seventh, hit a three-run homer that put Chadron State over the top for a final score of 4-3 in the series opener.

In the later contest, CSC got down 5-0 in the first inning, and was trailing 7-0 going into the sixth, when Taylor Bauer doubled to center field to break the scoring drought. Francine Boston, Alyssa Geist, Courtney Lecher, Kayla Michel, and Bauer all got base hits in the inning to recover three runs from the Rangers.

Facing elimination after two outs in the seventh, Bauer hit an RBI single, and Sheyann Ludwig, Lindsey Karlin, and Michel each doubled to put the Eagles up 8-7 which held up for the final score.

Sophomore Dallas Magnusson pitched six and two-thirds innings, allowing two earned runs to pick up the win.

The series resumes at 11 a.m. Sunday.
