LAS VEGAS, N.M. -- March 5, 2017 -- Chadron State College softball went 1-1 again in Sunday's doubleheader at New Mexico Highlands University to finish the weekend 2-2.
The day started with a six-inning, 12-3 loss to Highlands, but the Eagles rebounded in game four of the weekend as CSC forced a series tie with a 9-7 win.
CSC sophomore
Kayla Michel was 4-for-5 on the day with two walks. She recorded three RBI and two runs on a pair of singles, a double, and a home run.
Michel's homer accounted for two of the Eagles' three runs in the morning game. Three CSC errors helped the Cowgirls amass five unearned runs in the contest, which was called by rule in the sixth on a three RBI double by Monica Caporal.
Senior shortstop
Courtney Lecher provided the go-ahead in the afternoon row, going out of the park in the second inning for three RBI after a Eubanks leadoff double and an error that allowed
Taylor Bauer to reach base.
In the sixth inning, senior catcher
Zoe Humphries gave the Eagles just the lead they needed to finish with a win, hitting a single to left that plated two pinch runners after
Lindsey Karlin doubled and Michel walked.
Kinsley Mason earned her second win of the season.
Dallas Magnusson earned her second save.
A quick turnaround for the Eagles takes them to Kearney on Tuesday for a double-header with the out-of-conference rival to the southeast. Chadron State is now 7-11 overall, and 4-3 in the RMAC.
