GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- February 25, 2018 -- The Chadron State College softball team struggled to find its place on offense Sunday at NFCA No. 3 Colorado Mesa University, falling 6-0 and 11-1 in a doubleheader.
CMU's McKenzie Surface hurled a no-hitter versus the Eagles, striking out 14 in the win in the early game. She improved to 7-0.

Jessica Jarecki struck out seven, allowing only six hits, but went to 1-6 on the season with a pair of doubles from Brooke Hodgson and a double from Kellie Mrofcza producing most of the Mavericks' runs'.
Kayla Michel provided the lone run for the Eagles in the late game, stroking a solo homer in the fourth to right center. CMU plated seven in the sixth inning to affect a shortened game and go to 2-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in the first conference games of the season.
Megan Horn took the loss for the Eagles, going to 1-3 on the year while Kimbri Herring improved to 3-0 individually with the win.
Chadron State went to 2-10 overall and 0-2 in conference play. Mesa got its first two wins in the league while running its overall record to 12-0.
