Wrestling team to dual Pueblo Thursday

CHADRON, Neb. -- January 9, 2019 -- Chadron State College wrestlers will be in Pueblo, Colorado, on Thursday evening for a dual with Colorado State University-Pueblo at 5 p.m. The Eagles' final road dual of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference schedule pits them against the nation's 11th-ranked team, which features four ranked individuals.

This will be the conference opener for the ThunderWolves, who enter the contest with a 3-1 dual record. In their first dual of the season, Pueblo defeated the nation's No. 1 team, Nebraska-Kearney, then ranked second, by a 31-12 margin on December 15. Two days later the team defeated Minnesota State 31-11 in Las Vegas, and fell 16-20 to eighth-ranked Pitt-Johnstown, which is now ranked fourth. Also in Vegas, the ThunderWolves downed NCAA Division III No. 11 Coe College 27-15.

Ranked wrestlers for CSU-Pueblo include No. 4 D'Andre Brumfield, at 133 pounds, No. 9 Tarrence Williams at 184, No. 10 Haszell West at 197, and Division II's No. 4 heavyweight Gavin Nye. All four are undefeated so far in dual action this season. Additionally, PTGarcia at 141 is a two-time NCAA qualifier. The ThunderWolves' 174-pounder, Preston Lauterbach, was a 2017 NJCAA national champion, and a pair of transfers, Jasiah Williams and Isaiah Diggs, were NJCAA All-Americans in 2018 at Clackamas Community College, at 149 and 157 pounds, respectively.

CSC is 3-3 in head-to-head action, with a 2-2 RMAC record. Less than a week prior to Thursday's showdown, they defeated New Mexico Highlands 25-21 and lost to Adams State 12-28. Both matches were at the opponents' campuses.

Thursday's match will be live streamed through Stretch Internet and posted live at trackwrestling.com. Links to both are available on the Eagles' wrestling schedule page at ChadronEagles.com.
