Volleyball falls to UCCS

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The Chadron State College volleyball team's late comeback fell short as they fell to the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Saturday night in five sets, 25-19, 21-25, 21-25, 25-20, 13-15.
 
Set two consisted of 10 ties and lead changes. The Eagles led 19-14, but the Mountain Lions closed on a 11-2 scoring run to win. In the decisive fifth set, CSC led 2-1, but after a kill by Lauryn Shockley for UCCS, the Eagles never saw the lead again.
 
The loss drops Chadron State to 13-9 overall and 7-7 in the RMAC, while the Mountain Lions improve to 9-14 and 7-8 in the conference. The Eagles are now ranked ninth in the conference.
 
In the match, UCCS outhit CSC .3 to .255.
 
Shelby Schouten hit .355 and had 15 kills to lead the Eagles. Chandler Hageman and Rylee Greiman each had 14 kills and hit .429 and .387, respectively. Timmi Keisel also had double-digit kills with 10. She led the team in attack percentage at .526.
 
Setter Tori Strickbine finished with a career high 58 assists.
 
Three different players had double-digit digs, led by Ashton Burditt with 25. Karli Noble and Abby Schaefer followed closely behind with 19 and 17, respectively.
 
Schouten led Chadron State with four blocks.
 
Lauryn Shockley had a match high 21 kills for the Mountain Lions. Grace Nelson had 16 kills while Hannah Ammerman had 14. Raelynn Edge had 47 assists.
 
Five different individuals had double-digit digs for UCCS, led by libero Jordyn Kinsey with 28. Anabel Cagen had a match high eight blocks.
 
The Eagles return to action Friday as they return home to face Black Hills State. It will be Girl Scouts and CDC night, while the theme of the game is Black Out BH. Fans are asked to wear black.
