CHADRON, Neb. -- December 5, 2019 -- The Colorado Christian women's basketball team outscored Chadron State 17-9 in the fourth quarter to pull away from the Eagles Friday evening, winning 69-56 in the Chicoine Center.

With the loss, CSC drops to 2-8 overall and 0-1 in conference play. The Cougars earned their first victory of the season, improving to 1-7 overall and 1-0 in the RMAC.

The Cougars outscored CSC 29-16 in the first quarter, but the Eagles used a 16-3 scoring run in the second quarter to lower the halftime deficit to two. CCU outscored CSC 14-11 in the third before using the fourth quarter to propel them to victory.

"We played a lot better defense in the second quarter," Head Coach
Janet Raymer said. "We got close but we started turning the ball over and making mistakes at the end of the game."
The Eagles shot 37.7 percent (23-61) from the field while Colorado Christian hit 42.4 percent (25-59). Chadron State was outrebounded in the loss 40-36.

CSC finished 25 percent (5-20) from beyond the arc and were 5-9 from the free-throw line. The Cougars shot 16 more free-throws, making 14 of 25 attempts for 56 perecent and converted five of fifteen shots from three.

Chadron State commited one more turnover in the game, with 21. CCU scored 27 points off turnovers, while the Eagles scored 16 points of 20 Cougar turnovers.

Three players scored in double-digits for CSC.
Melisa Kadic, who made three of the Eagle's shots from behind the arc, led with 13.
Jessica Lovitt and
Taryn Foxen each scored 11 and 10, respectively.

Kadic and Lovitt led the team with eight rebounds each.

Sam Nunez scored a game-high 22 points for the Cougars. Brookelyn Hurlbut, Marie Tsoungui and Lourdes Gonzales followed behind in scoring. Hurlbut had 12 points and Tsoungui and Gonzalez had 11 and 10, respectively. Â

Gonzalez led both teams with 10 rebounds.

CSC returns to action tomorrow as they host Regis. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
