LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- March 23, 2019 -- The Colorado Christian University softball team outhit Chadron State College 20 to 5 on Saturday, winning by run rule in six and five innings by matching scores of 8-0 in Lakewood.
CCU pitchers Kenzie Mattey and Jennifer Romero pitched a three-hitter and a two-hitter, respectively, to blank the Eagles twice and senior outfielder batted 3-for-4 with three walks, three RBI, and three runs scored to lead a pack of Cougars on offense.

Gabby Russell each started a game and received a pitching decision. Horn fell to 1-2 and Russell to 0-6.
The home team went up 2-0 in the second inning of the noon game, then closed things out in the fifth and sixth innings. In the afternoon contest, the Cougars' offense gave them a 5-0 lead by the third inning, before they closed things out in the fourth and fifth.
For Chadron State,
Bailey Marvel went 2-for-5 with a triple and no errors at shortstop. No other CSC batter had more than one hit.
Another doubleheader begins at 11 a.m. on Sunday in Lakewood.
